Pastor Wirtanen or “Pastor Neale” as he likes to be called is a native Marylander, born in
Baltimore . He graduated from
Towson
University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology. From there, he attended Trinity Lutheran Theological Seminary in
Columbus Ohio where in 1974 he received a Master of Theology degree.
Pastor Neale’s first call was to
Faith
Lutheran
Church in
Arlington Virginia as assistant pastor. In 1978, he received a called and accepted to serve as pastor for
St. Paul ’s.
Pastor Neale has been active both in church and community. Church-wide he has held the office of Dean of the Harford Conference for three terms, served on the church Division for Education, and as voting member to the Church-wide Assembly in 1997.
In the community his involvement has included being appointed as Trustee for the Harford County Library System, Harford County Planning Committee, Advisory Committee for the
Aberdeen
High School , Chaplain for the Aberdeen Police Department and the Maryland State Police.
Pastor Neale is married to Donna, and has two grown daughters.
