ST. PAUL’S LUTHERANCHURCH --- WOMEN OF THE E.L.C.A.

Women of the E.L.C.A. participate in a variety of important activities to support the mission of St. Paul’s, promote personal growth, and provide outreach to our local, state, national, and world communities.  At St. Paul’s, all ladies are automatically members of WOMEN OF THE E.L.C.A..  We encourage participation in any or all activities.

Our activities are always described in the Monthly Newsletter and in the Sunday bulletins.  Be sure to look to see what is happening.

Activities are planned by the members of the Board.

GROWTH ACTIVITIES:

Monthly Bible Study:  Currently we have three active Bible Study groups.  The Esther Circle meets on the 1st Saturday at 9:00 a.m.  The Elizabeth Circle meets on the 2nd Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. The Rebekah Circle meets on the 3rd Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.

General Meetings:  Meetings of an informative nature are held in February, April, and October.  The Mother-Daughter Banquet is in May followed by the Secret Pal Party in June.  The Christmas Party is held early in December.

Other Meetings:  We participate in the Harford Cluster of LutheranChurches and DE-MD Synod activities.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES:

Martha’s Meal:  Every six weeks, our ladies plan and serve lunch for the Aberdeen Soup Kitchen program.

Vial of Life Project:  We assemble and sell life-saving medical information containers called the VIAL OF LIFE.

Annual Yard Sale:  Each year, along with the church youth group, we organize and hold a large yard sale in order to help our members clean our their houses and to help us finance our outreach projects.

LEO Luncheons:  Once each month a group of St. Paul’s members sign up for the Lutherans Eating Out luncheon.  These are scheduled at a different restaurant each time – some are in the immediate area, some are a little further away.  A good time is had by all – especially those who ride St. Paul’s van as we have more time for good fellowship along the way.

Prayer Chain:  When prayers are requested for someone in need, the prayer chain is activated.  Members call those on their list to notify our members that prayers are needed  for a specific person.

Altar Guild:  Several ladies participate in this ministry to see that all is in readiness at our altar for each church service.

Donations:  At various times, we collect books, supplies to fill school bags, sewing kits, baby layettes, health kits, seafarer’s Christmas boxes, etc. that are sent or taken to needy schools, churches, or sent to Lutheran World Relief to be sent to those in need.  In addition, monetary donations are made to organizations such as The Heifer Project,  The Navajo School, L.A.M.P. (flying missionaries), On Eagle’s Wings (Arctic Bible School project), and several local facilities that help those in need.

MISSION ACTIVITIES:

Quilt Making:  On the last Wednesday of each month (except June, July, August, & December) many of our ladies can be found making the quilts that are sent to New Windsor to be sent to areas all around the world where they are needed.  Baby afghans are also collected to be donated to PROJECT LINUS.

St. Dysmas Prison Ministry:  Periodically, we schedule a talk by the pastor of the prison ministry in Maryland or a trip to visit inmates who participate in Christian services.

Equal Exchange Coffee, Tea, & Cocoa:  Verna’s Coffee Corner Cart is always on duty with beverages for Sunday Services and other events.  A variety of coffee and tea flavors along with cocoa bars can be purchased through the church office.

Prayer Shawl Ministry:  Ladies who knit or crochet meet on the 1st Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m. to make prayer shawls that are given to those who are sick, or otherwise in need of being wrapped in GOD’s love.  These shawls are made as we pray for the person who will receive it.  Chemo-Caps are also made for those going through chemotherapy for cancer.
